ROAD TO KOREA CUP: GLOBAL HIT ADDS YTN CUP TO STAYER SERIES HAUL

27 Apr 2024

The 2023 Korean Derby winner and 8th place finisher in last year's Korea Cup, GLOBAL HIT continued his rise to the top of the local ratings by winning the YTN Cup (2000M KOR-G3) at Seoul Racecourse on Sunday April 21st, adding to his success in the first leg of the Stayer Series, the Herald Business (2000M KOR-G3) in March.

Global Hit was ridden by Kim Hye-sun, who became the first female jockey to win the Korean Derby when partnering him to victory in the Three-Year-Old Classic last June. He went on to win the final jewel, the Minister's Cup (2000M KOR-G2) last July, although having not run in the opening leg, he missed out on the chance of a Triple Crown. He would finish his season with strong 2nd places behind 2022 Korea Cup winner Winner's Man in both the President's Cup (2000M KOR-G1) and Grand Prix Stakes (2300M KOR-G1).

TUHONUI BANSEOK, the defending champion and 6th in last year's Korea Cup, made all the running only to be taken down by Global Hit in the shadow of the post. SPEED YOUNG was 3rd with NUT PLAY in 4th.

The final leg of the Stayer Series is the Busan Mayor's Cup (1800M KOR-G2) at Busan Racecourse on Sunday June 16th when the top local hopes for the 2024 Korea Cup are expected to re-convene.
