The Korea Cup, the Korea Racing Authority's flagship International race will be run as an International Group 2 race this year. The Asian Pattern Committee approved the upgrade after confirming the the Korea Cup met the criteria based on its performance over the past three years. The Korea Sprint has maintained its International Group 3 classification.
Established in 2016, the Korea Cup is an international invitational race and was originally launched with the goal of enhancing the international competitiveness of Korean horse racing and expanding overseas exchanges. Along with the Korea Sprint, it has established itself as a representative global event for Korean horse racing. The Korea Cup is run over an 1800m distance with a total prize pool of 1.6 billion KRW, while the Korea Sprint is held over a 1,200m distance with a total prize pool of 1.4 billion KRW. This year's races will take place on Sunday September 6 at Seoul Racecourse.
In 2024, the Korea Cup and Korea Sprint were newly incorporated into the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series, strengthening connectivity with the global horse racing network. The winner of the Korea Cup qualifies for a spot in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1), while the winner of the Korea Sprint gains automatic entry to the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1). Both races will be run at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington, Kentucky on Saturday October 31.
